WCW World Tag Team Title Tournament 7/91 - 9/91

- The WCW World Tag Team Titles were vacated when the Hardliners injured Scott Steiner's bicep, causing the Steiners to forfeit the titles

- Round 1 Match 1: Fabulous Freebirds vs. Dick Slater & Dick Murdoch...Ross & Dangerously on commentary...the Freebirds are Garvin & Hayes here and are the US Tag Champs...they also have Big Daddy Dink with them...both teams are heels at this point...talk about how Slater & Murdoch injured Scott Steiner...nice psychology breakdown by Ross...basic heel brawl with some stiff offense...fans seem to be leaning towards the Freebirds...nice to hear "...in all of sports" instead of "...in all of sports entertainment" for a change...Hayes hits Murdoch with the DDT but Slater saves...all four men are brawling all around causing confusion on commentary...pretty long match...the brawling continues as Dink gets involved too...both teams end up getting counted out, eliminating both from the tournament...decent match, but lame double elimination right out of the gate

- Round 1 Match 2: Young Pistols vs. Enforcers...Ross & Dangerously on commentary...the Pistols are Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong and the Enforcers is the great team of Arn Anderson & Larry Zbyszko...I have always been a big Enforcers fan...Ross talks about how the Enforcers usually work on the lower back of their opponents...Ross plugs his local radio show...the Pistols began to pick apart Arn's arm...Pistols control quite a bit early on...the Enforcers finally take over as JR gushes about how they change strategy mid match to adapt...what a great announce team...they really start to destroy Smothers' leg and JR starts to fear for his career...Armstrong finally hops in the ring and submits on behalf of his partner to save him from further injury...the Enforcers advance...I liked that finish as it made the Enforcers look deadly

- Round 1 Match 3: Terrance Taylor & Richard Morton vs. The Patriots...Ross & Dangerously on commentary...Taylor & Morton are part of the York Foundation here....lots of praise for Morton's abilities by Dangerously...Taylor & Morton use the computer for assistance as always...commentary talks about the experience advantage for the York team...basic heel stuff here with the crowd rallying the Patriots...the Patriots recover and steal the win in an upset

- Round 2 Match 1: Looks like we are jumping ahead, unless there were byes involved...Rick Steiner & Bill Kazmaier vs. One Man Gang & Executioner...Kevin Sullivan is at ringside...Gang has some crazy hair here, basically his Akeem hair only longer and blow out wildly...what an odd tournament...hard hitting power stuff here sending Ross into a rage of glory...apparently Gang's hair is on the line in a match against El Gigante's green card coming up at a Clash...Ross tells us the Executioner replaced Black Blood here, due to injury...Black Blood was Billy Jack Haynes, who I am guessing had left the promotion...Kaz and Rick win, as expected

- Round 2 Match 2: Enforcers vs. Patriots...Ross & Dangerously on commentary...interesting dichotomy here...Ross likens it to Super Bowl III...good story here as expected...Arn eventually gets the pin, using the ropes for leverage...fun classic intelligent wrestling

- We get a clip of Eric Bischoff interviewing Kazmaier in the ring...Kaz is going to bend a steel rod using his head and neck...he does it, but the Enforcers sneak in and bash Kaz in the ribs with a set of weights...nice heel assault there...Rick makes the save but the damage is done

- Finals: Enforcers vs. Steiner & Kazmaier...Ross & Schiavone on commentary...announcers state that Steiner & Kaz can only win if they do it quickly due to Kaz's injury...the Enforcers begin to work over Rick and a few minutes Kaz gamely tags himself in to help but he is hurting big time...they quickly take advantage of the injured ribs and the Enforcers win the tag titles and the tournament

- OK, I found the entire tournament bracket...and we didn't get the full amount here, but I think we only missed out on a couple matches...oddly, they had five opening round matches...maybe one got added after the double elimination or something...still this is a very fun watch for some classic WCW wrestling and to hear Ross & Dangerously put on an announcing clinic
